Born to Peter and Irene Messina, Ann entered the world with calm determination and a spirit that remained undimmed throughout her days. She pursued nursing at SUNY Farmingdale, not merely as a career but as a calling—a reflection of her deep compassion and unwavering sense of duty. Whether tending to the needs of her patients, family, or friends, Ann acted always with sincerity, dignity, and care.
She was the devoted mother of four children: Cynthia (Bo) Kester, Michael (Kathy) Pereira, Anthony (Pauline) Pereira, and Danielle (Rick) Canavan. Ann raised her family with both firmness and tenderness, encouraging them to be thoughtful, capable, and unafraid to stand alone when necessary.
To her twelve grandchildren—Brooke Hightower (Xavier); Brandon Kester; Michael Pereira, Kacie Frazier (Armando), Dylan, Dean, and Kathleen Pereira; Vincent and Anthony Pereira; and Ricky, GracieAnne, and Chris Canavan—and her great-grandson, Matteo Frazier (son of Kacie and Armando)—she was a source of unconditional love and wisdom. Her presence—steadfast, generous, and attentive—was a balm in times of uncertainty and a delight in moments of joy. She listened without haste, offered counsel without judgment, and loved without reservation.
Ann possessed a keen mind, a dry and discerning wit, and a quiet confidence that spoke volumes without need for declaration. She held her convictions with grace and did what was right not for praise but because it was in her nature to do so. Her independence was never boastful but immovable.
She lived with authenticity, walked through life with grace, and loved her family with a depth that defies measure. Though she has gone from our sight, her influence remains ever-present—in gestures remembered, values instilled, and love that lingers. She shall be remembered not only for the life she led but for the character she so gracefully embodied.
Known lovingly to all as Meema, her spirit will continue to be a comforting presence and an enduring source of love for generations to come.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 am. Following the mass, Ann will be placed in the columbarium at St. Joseph Cemetery.
