Bobby was a resident of Vanceboro, North Carolina. He was born in Farmville, North Carolina in 1943 to James Louis and Alice Mae Flake. Bobby graduated from Winterville High School in 1962 before advancing his studies at Pitt Community College and then serving in the Army National Guard. He spent the majority of his career at Weyerhaeuser, retiring with over 30 years of service. Among his many talents, he was known for his advanced welding skills which he shared with all that wanted to learn.
Bobby, referred to by many as 'Rinky Dink', earned his pilot's license and thoroughly enjoyed flying small engine planes during his younger years. He enjoyed playing his guitar while gathering and sharing stories with close friends. Bobby was an avid outdoorsman with an obsession for deer hunting and a love for fishing. Countless hours were spent tucked in a deer stand in the woods or in his hunting truck parked down a dirt path. Bobby passed his love for the outdoors to his grandsons and was as proud as anyone of their successful hunts and accomplishments. His passion and knowledge for guns and ammo were unmatched. He enjoyed sharing that enthusiasm with members of the community, friends and family. His quick wit and entertaining personality captured the hearts of many. Above all, his love for his family and friends came first. Bobby will be missed immensely but will forever remain in our hearts.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, James Louis and Alice Mae, and by his brothers, Henry, Willie (Bill) and Louis (Toot) Flake.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie; his daughter, Kim Dudley (Mark); step-son, Nick Edwards (Heather); brother, Charles Flake (Delores); sister-in-law, Nan Flake (widow of Toot); grandsons, Evan and Tanner Dudley and granddaugher, Ashlyn Edwards.
A memorial service of Bobby's life will be held at Lakeside Chapel Pavillion at Greenleaf Memorial Park on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 3pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Bobby.
