Brently Ray Herring, 56, passed away at his home on January 5, 2026. Born on April 21, 1969, in New Bern, North Carolina, Brent was known for his kindness, generosity, caring nature, and deep compassion. He touched the lives of everyone around him with a gentle spirit and a heart always ready to help others.
Brent worked formerly at Bosch and spent many years serving in various rehabilitation centers across the region. He also sang at community singing events and in various choirs to help raise money for the rehabilitation facilities he cared so deeply about. Brent had many demons that he fought throughout his life, yet even in his hardest moments, he found purpose in helping others through their own struggles. His ultimate goal was to care for his mother and father, a commitment he carried with deep love and loyalty. His dedication to lifting others up—through his work, his music, and his compassion—reflected the strength and generosity he carried within him.
He found joy in camping, swimming, decorating for the holidays, going to church, and listening to music. He also loved singing, a passion that brought him comfort and connection throughout his life. Above all, Brent cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He recently traveled to California to visit his granddaughter, a trip that brought him immense happiness. He especially loved camping with his grandson, Trey, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Brent is survived by his mother, June, and his father, Ray Herring, of the home; his daughter, Heather Christine Jones (Jeremy) of California; his grandson, Eric “Trey” Johnson, of the home; and his granddaughter, Yvette Lynn Johnson of California.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Todd Austin Herring; his paternal grandparents, Allie Ray and Lula Herring; and his maternal grandparents, Junius and Marion Austin.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
