

A lifelong resident of Craven County, he was born November 8, 1947, to the late Wiley Jay Harris and the late Ruth Mae Jones Harris. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to New Bern where he began a career with Maola Milk and Ice Cream. After 32 years, he retired to a life of working on cars, fishing, gardening, following NFL football, and enjoying time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Lillian Harris Taylor, James Ashley “Bud” Harris, Gary Walter Harris, and Nadine Harris Ipock. He is survived by three children (and their spouses), Barbara Harris Saunders (Brian), Sandra Harris Zack (Clifford), and Timothy Cecil Harris (Michelle). He is also survived by his significant other, Zelma Christian; 5 siblings, Faye Harris Gatlin, Jo Harris Monette, Doris Harris Alfred, Janet Harris Bristol (Levi) and Lou Ellen “Lucy” Harris Rodehaver; 12 grandchildren, Blake Saunders (Sarah), Brooke Guthrie (Cameron), Kimberly Reynolds (Shane), Jennifer Chagnon, Stephanie Chagnon, Stanley Zack, Isabelle Zack, Timothy Harris Jr., Elizabeth Worley (Stephen), Cheyanne Harris, Haley Harris, and Brian Harris; 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later time. Arrangements by Cotten Funeral Home.
