She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Carl Nathan Wellington; her parents, Ruby Haire and Carson Alexander Clippard, Sr.; and siblings, Carson Alexander Clippard, Jr. and Glenda Yvonne Lester.
Debbie attended Western Carolina University and received her Masters of Education at East Carolina University. She pursued a career in elementary education and taught in the Craven County school system for over 20 years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and playing bridge with her girlfriends. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in New Bern. Debbie loved looking her best with her signature look of matching sweater set, shoes, and handbag. Her family, friends, and students will remember her most for her selfless love and generosity.
She is survived by her sons, Jason Bryant Wellington and wife Laura Whaley of Wilmington and Patrick Brock Wellington and wife Theresa Ann of Indian Land, S.C.; grandchildren, Charlie and Betsy Wellington of Wilmington and Luke Wellington of Indian Land, S.C.; and sister-in-law Michelle Whitfield and husband Dwayne Whitfield of La Grange.
For those who would like to pay their final respects to Mrs. Deborah Wellington, a Floating Visitation will be held at Cotten Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 2:00-5:00 PM. Due to current health guidelines, the family will not be present during this time.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
