   I did not get to know him for very long. It did not take long to know he was a very knowledgeable and amazing man.  I am sure he is missed by many. He will live on for many years to come through all that knew him.  I was in shock and saddened to hear of him passing. He passed on himself through his 700 phone contacts , guild and all that knew him. I look forward to hearing more of him and I have no doubt his life would make for a awesome book for many more to get to know him. I just wish I could have met him much sooner.

Donnie was one of the most knowledgeable and generous men I ever met.  After a lifetime of machining, welding and blacksmithing, he could still get excited about new metalworking projects, and it was always fun talking with him about what he had  been working on and what he was planning. 

I think he liked helping people more than anything else.  Around 1996, as a very green beginner blacksmith, I had just met Donnie and was admiring a 70-lb air hammer he had built. I casually remarked that I wanted to own a power hammer one day and Donnie said, “Why don’t you borrow this one?  I’m not using it right now.”  He helped me move it to my shop, and let me hang on to it for a year!

He was just a terrific human being, one who will be sorely missed. 

I met Donnie in 1979 where he worked at F H Gaskins Co Inc. he was always ready to help and most of all if you had a question or needed help. I talked to Donnie a few days before he passed and I had a question about some metal covers and he immediately told me where to find what I was looking for. He was a good friend and will dearly be missed.

I'm not able to attend Donnie's service today, but please know that he has many friends in our blacksmith community.  Please accept prayers for peace and solace.  

I have known Donnie over 35 years. He was always kind. Always ready to help. We laughed. We talked. He was like a well worn shoe. Very comfortable. I will miss him terribly. One of the nicest, sweetest, most awesome guys I've ever had the privilege to know.  Rest in Peace, my sweet friend. I am so sorry you are gone. 

I'm sorry for your loss.  Losing a loved one in death is such a difficult thing.  Please find comfort in knowing that God views death as an enemy and will soon end it forever.  (1 Cor 15:26)  God's word also promises a time when we can all hope to see our loved ones again.  (John 5:28,29)  A beautiful hope!
