Dorothy B. Hill

Dorothy Bartul Hill, 87, of New Bern, NC passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 5, 2024. Dorothy was born on August 22, 1936 in New York City, NY to John Joseph Bartul and Dorothy Bartul.

After being married, Dorothy became a homemaker and the mother of four children. She later attended Craven Community College obtaining an Associate's degree, then became a legal assistant with a local law firm. Dorothy loved the outdoors, especially, working in her garden. She was an avid bird lover of the many beautiful birds in NC, and was known to enjoy her time watching them outside through her dining room and living room windows while at their feeders. Dorothy was also a devout Christian, having been the hands and feet of Christ for many years in her local community, serving others that were less fortunate.

She is predeceased by her parents and her youngest brother, Billy Bartul.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Margaret Hubbard Griffett, Robert John Hill, Mary Dorothy Civils, and Pamela Lee Hill. She was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

On behalf of the Hill family, we would like to especially thank the following: Nanette Hill, daughter-in-law, for the years of respect, comfort, patience and love that you have always shown and given to Mom. Mom's brother Jack, who Mom always loved and adored. Thank you Uncle Jack for being a great brother to her. Pastor Cal Langford and the members of Foundation Life Fellowship Church for keeping her encouraged in Christ over the years. Jessie Gwyther, Cookie Padrick, and Marsha Eastwood, all close, personal friends that have been by her side, through many years of her life, and have remained faithful to that friendship to the end. Sammy and Sharon Ebron, for the yards mowed, lawnmowers repaired, firewood delivered, late nights helping pick Mom back up off the floor, and the conversations that she enjoyed having with you. Mom's neighbors that have assisted and loved her. Gentiva Hospice, bringing care, comfort, and peace to Mom in the last few months of her life, especially, RN Bonnie Tinsley, a gift from God to Mom. Bonnie, when you see Dorothy in heaven someday, she will ask you again, "Why were you so nice to me?!" Mom saw Jesus through you. You have been a blessing to us. And last, but not least, any doctors, nurses, paramedics or other health care professionals that had a part in Mom's care, Thank You!

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Cotten Funeral Home, followed by her service at 11:00 am. A private family burial will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice, in honor of and thanks for the end of life care provided to Dorothy.
