

Elizabeth Batkins Longest, 94, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away at home with her daughter Linda and granddaughter Sheila by her side on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Elizabeth, affectionately know to many as “Granny” was born on January 19, 1930 in New Kent County, Virginia to the late George Washington Batkins and Irma Ballard Batkins.
Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother who shined bright with a loving warmth, quick wit and unwavering loyalty. She leaves behind a legacy of love and a collection of unforgettable stories that will undoubtedly be recited countless times with the laughter and joy that these cherished memories hold dear.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Linda Harrell, son Robert "Jack" Longest (Amanda Longest), granddaughters: Sheila Harrell (Adrienne Freeman), Heather Mikulak (Jason Mikulak) and Denise “Necie” Alexander, niece Gina Williams, nephew Paul Jordan, a host of great-grands, including Bryce and Hadley Mikulak who she was extremely close to and a host of great great-grands and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband, Burman A. Longest, daughter Margaret P. Rymer, sister Carrie Ingram, granddaughter Desma J. Foster, grandson Dennis Rymer and daughter-in-law Edith Longest.
The family of Elizabeth Longest wishes to express with great appreciation, the many expressions of sympathy, concern and gestures of kindness during this most difficult hour of bereavement.
May her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on March 22, 2024 at Cotten Funeral Home from 2-4pm.
