Leaving behind to honor and cherish Gene's memories are his wife of almost 51 years, Heide Lock; children, Evan (Kristen) Lock, Diana (Brian) Pham; grandchildren, Addison Lock, Brennan Lock, Ava Pham, Lula Pham; siblings, Donald (Dorothy) Lock; many loving nieces, nephews and their children, and close friends. Gene grew up in Silver Beach in the Bronx, where he still has many friends and family members.
Gene is preceded in death by his brother, George (Diane) Lock.
Gene was a tireless supporter of the New Bern Historical Society and was living his dream by being adjutant of the New Bern Battlefield. He was a true bibliophile, known to read three books at a time. Everyone who met Gene liked him and those who knew him well loved him.
Gene will forever be Heide’s best friend and the love of her life. As a father and grandfather, he made it a priority to be truly present in his family’s lives and always found ways to share his love of learning with them. His “Dad” jokes were legendary. He’ll leave you with the punchline for his oldest and favorite one - “No soap, radio”.
To honor Gene's wishes, no services will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gene's honor to the New Bern Historical Society for the New Bern Battlefield.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Eugene "Gene" Robert Lock.
