

Florence Ann Sledge, called "Ann" by her family and friends, was 86 years old and a resident of New Bern, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Lamar Sledge, her parents William Carl Smith and Florence R. Wolf, as well as her sons Teddy Straub, Kevin Sledge, and daughter Susan Fick.
Ann is survived by her son Timothy Straub, daughters Crystal Martin and Linda Straub, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a beloved member of First Baptist Church in New Bern, where she actively participated in the community. Florence had an impressive career in the medical field. She graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) in 1986 with a Master's degree in Nursing. She dedicated nearly 50 years of her life to CarolinaEast Medical Center, where she worked in various departments including the operating room, surgical floor, recovery, and served as a night shift supervisor.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ann had a number of special interests and hobbies. She was involved in ministry work, enjoyed traveling, cherished her home on the river, loved reading, and had a special bond with her dog Maggie.
A graveside memorial service to honor Ann's life will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Greenleaf Memorial Park. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together to pay their respects and celebrate Florence's life.
