Frank Edward Kerr, 91, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away while surrounded by family and holding the hand of his beloved wife, on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Frank was born in Eggleston, Virginia on March 4, 1934, to the late Thomas W. Kerr and Elmer Cumbee Kerr.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy for twenty years, from 1951 to 1971. Following his military retirement, he continued his dedication to service through a civil service career at Cherry Point.
A man who loved the outdoors, Frank took special joy in caring for animals of all kinds year-round and had a particular fondness for his beloved dog, BJ. He never shied away from helping a neighbor or friend, always ready to lend a hand when it was needed. Known for his strong opinions and sharp wit, Frank liked to say he was always right—except for the one time when he was mistaken. He was always quick with a joke, and loved sharing tales of his Navy adventures and travels around the globe.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Della Tetterton Kerr; brothers, Wayne Kerr and Gary Kerr (Shelby); daughters, Debbie Spence (Paul), Nancy Delgais (Dennis), Paula Tyer (Charles), and Bonnie Lewis (Samantha); sons, Thomas Kerr (Krissy) and Randy Tyer. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Bryan Kerr, Bradford Thorpe, Daniel Albright, and Lauren McLamb.
Frank was preceded in death by his son, Frank “Eddie” Kerr Jr., and his siblings Walter, Bill, Margaret, Mabel, Rita, and Jimmy.
