Frederick Emmett McSorley

He is survived by his three children: Jon Heggie (Crystal), Rebecca Stewart, and Roderick McSorley. As well as all four of his siblings: Frances Britt, William McSorley, Phillip McSorley, and Maria Thomas. He had six grandchildren: Jaid Labrie (Holden), Crystal Stewart, Cameron Stewart, Ryan Heggie, Stephanie Heggie, and Brittany Pagano (Wayne). He leaves behind three great-grandchildren whom he loved very much: Oberyn Labrie, Ursula Labrie, and Apple Eloise Pagano. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Deborah McSorley.

Born on November 13, 1948, in New Bern, NC to Hazel Cox Pitt and Francis Stapleton McSorley, Freddy was the third of five children, whom he remained close with throughout his life. In 1967, he joined the Army. During his military career, he served in the Vietnam War. In 1969 he married Deborah, his wife of 52 years. They and their three children travelled the country and world during his service. He saw many places as a soldier, such as Egypt and South Korea. As a family they lived in many more - including Colorado, Germany, and Virginia - before settling in his hometown of New Bern, NC upon retirement from the military. He went on to work another full twenty years before retiring from Moen as well. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his yard, and spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Private Visitation for family will be Monday, August 21, 2023 at 10am at Cotten Funeral Home. A service will be held at the family home at 1403 Queen Anne Lane in New Bern, NC on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 beginning at 2pm.
