Gary was a native of New Bern, graduating from New Bern High School in 1990. He then earned a degree in Business Administration from Campbell University.
Gary is survived by his husband, Daniel E. Potter; his parents, Gary E. and Cora W. Stobel; and his sister, Shannon S. Adams of Leonardtown, Maryland. Gary also had three step-children who loved him very much: Zachary Potter, Rachel Potter and Gillian Potter.
Gary was a volunteer at Religious Community Services, where he worked to help the less fortunate meet basic necessities.
A memorial service will be held at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Gary's memory be made to RCS New Bern, POB 704, New Bern, NC 25862.
