

Lieutenant Colonel George "Bob" Robert Callison, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), 87, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 21st surrounded by his family, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Born on June 22nd, 1938, in Springdale, West Virginia, he was the son of George and Madeline Callison. As a teenager, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ at Meadow Bridge Baptist Church.
He graduated from Meadow Bridge High School in 1955. He went on to attend West Virginia University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1960. While pursuing graduate studies, he felt called to serve his country and joined the military. He later completed a Master’s degree in Business, further equipping him for leadership both in and out of uniform.
He faithfully served 25½ years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A decorated aviator, he accumulated more than 3,600 flight hours and flew the H-34 helicopter, A-4E jet, and C-12 jet during his distinguished career. He completed two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Japan.
Among his many notable assignments, he played a key role during the Cuban Crisis, overseeing the movement of MAG-14 to Key West and piloting the lead helicopter across the country to the West Coast. He also served with the Defense Intelligence Agency and participated in Air Order Conferences throughout Europe.
His exemplary service was recognized with numerous honors and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his work with the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Soviet Fighter Medal, fourteen Air Medals, and the Bronze Star with Combat “V.”
Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Callison; his sister, Sue Callison; and his beloved daughter, Melanie Callison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Drema “Dee” Ferguson Callison; his son, George “Greg” Callison; his grandson, Logan Callison; and his granddaughter, Madeline, and her husband, Caden Fields. His legacy of faith, service, strength, and love will live on through them and through all who were honored to know him.

A visitation will be held at Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC, 28560, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 2:00 pm.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Clintonville, West Virginia at Wallace Memorial Cemetery.
