

George Gordon Williams, Jr., a resident of Trent Woods, NC, passed away June 8, 2016 at his home after a three year battle with lymphoma. George was born on October 30, 1925 in Alabama but lived in Miami, Tallahassee, and Pensacola, Florida, Columbus and Gainesville, Georgia, Chapel Hill, Greenville and most recently in New Bern, NC.
After graduating from the University of Alabama, he returned to get a masters of Vocational Rehabilitation at the age of 40. He retired as a Major from the United States Air Force Reserves. George was a Nose Gunner in B17’s during World War II. He was shot down and landed behind Russian lines. George retired after 30 years with the state of North Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation. He was a lifetime member of Civitan International and a 40 year member of the New Bern Civitans.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Mehaffey Williams. George is survived by their three children, George Gordon Williams, III (Debbie), Dale Williams (Mary Beth) and Emily W. Attaway (Ron), five grandchildren, Christa, Kelly, Jonathan, Brian, Michael, and their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2016 at Cotten Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Upon his request, please make memorial donations to Guideons International or Tabernacle Baptist Church Family Life Center in lieu of flowers.
