

Harold was a well-known figure in Havelock, being a mail carrier and then mail clerk at the Havelock Post Office. Harold graduated from New Bern High School in 1956 and has remained involved with his classmates meeting for breakfast monthly. Harold served on the committee for Happy Havelock and was the previous chair of the Havelock Chili Festival during the chili festival’s inaugural years. Harold grew up on the Neuse River, boating, fishing, shrimping and crabbing. Harold was a member of Cherry Point Masonic Lodge #688 in Havelock.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Rebert and Pauline Boyd Rawls and niece Karen Rawls. He is survived by his wife, Linda, son David Rawls, daughter Lori Rawls McClain, grandsons Christoper (Jessica) Kalt, Raymond McClain (Kelsey Boyd), Ian McClain, granddaughter Jessica Day (Bobby Reed) and great-grandchildren Jacob, Porter and Chrisley Rae, his brother Frank Rawls (Christa) and niece Christine Rawls Silva (Christopher).
Harold loved to cook, enjoyed playing poker at the World Poker Tournament in Las Vegas, and gave back to the community by cooking for special events at churches, family reunions and was always looking for a reason to cook for others. He had served as a cook, on a boat, in the US Army with the 8 24th Heavy Boat Company during the Berlin Crisis traveling up and down the inland waterways. Harold was well known for wearing his white rubber boots while shrimping on the Neuse River and began a new fashion trend.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church, 324 Miller Blvd., Havelock, NC 28532, Saturday December 30th at 1:00 PM. Fellowship and visitation with the family will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Methodist Church, National CASA/GAL Association for Children, St. Jude Foundation, or any charitable organization of your choice.
