Harry Thomas Mercer, 89, of New Bern, passed away on Saturday, February 15th, 2020. Harry never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with most anyone. Those qualities, along with his vibrant personality made him one of the best car salesmen of his era in and around the New Bern area. He began his career with Craven Motor Company but also worked for several other dealerships through the years, including Aubrey Johnson and Tryon Chevrolet. Harry gave of his time to the community by serving with the West of New Bern Fire Department and as a member of the New Bern Elks Lodge. He will be missed but the memory of his smile and love for telling a good story will be remembered by all who knew him through the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Dunn Mercer; brothers, Paul Mercer, Roger Mercer, Johnny Mercer, and Freddie Mercer; as well as his sister, Helen Boyd.
Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 23rd at Bethany Christian Church in the Jasper community.
