

He was an honorably discharged Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, candy making, fishing and spending time watching University of Tennessee sports with his family. He was an avid Elvis fan and loved listening to Christmas music year-round. Most of all, Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and his wife, Betty wished upon the smallest star of the Little Dipper the first night they met and remained inseparable until death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Doane; brother, Billy Doane; sister, Betty Sue Doane; and great grandson, Oscar Doane.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Doane of the home; four children, Jack Porter Doane, Jr. (Malia) of Holly Ridge, William Edwin Doane (Janet) of Walstonburg, Michael Jeffrey Doane, Sr. of New Bern, and Kimberly Doane Richards of Swansboro; brothers, Harvey Lee Doane and James David Doane; sisters, Mary Ruth Cox, Sandra Kay Doane, and Ida Lynn Robinson; grandchildren, Christopher Chase Doane, Austin Ryan Doane, Justin Darin Atkins, Stephanie Denise Ward, Chassidy Brooke Galyon, Hannah Alyse Doane, William Jonathan Doane, Michael Jeffrey Doane, Jr., Cassie E. King, Leah Marie Doane, Holly Ann Richards, and Heather Richards Buck (Eric); and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
