Janet Berry Sutton

Janet Berry Sutton passed away peacefully on February 7th surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born on March 6th, 1944 in Rutherford College, North Carolina. She was raised by her loving grandparents, Elva and Monty Berry along with her aunt Lucille.

Janet had a wonderful childhood growing up in Rutherford College and the mountains near Banner Elk. She attended Appalachian State University as an education major. She was a finalist in the 1963 Miss North Carolina Pageant representing Valdese.

Janet relocated to Raleigh where she met her husband, Dallas of nearly 60 years. Their son, Bradley was born in Raleigh before they relocated to New Bern in 1968. Janet finished her education at East Carolina University and enjoyed a career teaching elementary education in the Craven County School System. She was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church from her early days in New Bern until her passing. She loved serving her church in many ways and found special joy singing in the choir, participating in musicals and directing the children’s choir with Orff instruments.

Janet loved the arts, history and travel. She was fortunate to visit many countries throughout the world and cherished these experiences. Her true loves were God, church, family, friends, volunteering, giving to others and the mountains.

Janet is survived by her husband, Dallas, her son, Brad and wife, Ann, and her daughter, Angela and husband, Hylan.

The family would like to thank the amazing healthcare professionals at ECU Health and Crystal Coast Hospice House for their wonderful care.

A celebration of life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.
