OBITUARY

Jesse Stuart Schmucker

5 January, 1960 – 8 August, 2022
IN THE CARE OF

Cotten Funeral Home

Jesse Stuart Schmucker, age 62 of New Bern NC, passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness 8/8/2022, with his wife, Terri Koson, sister-in-law Sally and brother-in-law Jerry Antonellis at his side.

Born in Canton, Ohio to the late Clarence and Wenola Schmucker, Jesse left home at 18 to enlist in the US Air Force. After serving 4 years, he subsequently joined the Coast Guard, and retired after 20 years of total service.

After retirement he relocated to eastern NC from Florida to be closer to his family. He is survived by his wife, son Jesse Lee Schmucker of New Bern, and daughter Jillian Wilburn of CA. He is also survived by his sisters, Wenola Griffin and Jean Rogers, brothers, Steve (Carla), Eric, and Clancy Schmucker, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, niece Taylor Schmucker, and stepson Ryan Koson-Williams.

To know Jesse was to know optimism, even in the face of terminal illness, and an eternal smile. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving bow hunting, fishing and boating.

His post-retirement career included marina management and working with his friends at Pinecone Garden Center. He became a Mason, joining Bern lodge, and was also a member of the Shriners.

The family wishes to thank all of the friends and well wishers who assisted Jesse in the last months of his journey. We would especially like to thank Joy with Craven County Hospice, Dr Jennifer Aron, Dr Joe Healy, Dr Rick Gorman, and the interventional radiology staff at CarolinaEast, as well as Dr Everett, the ICU, 3IMC staff, Dr Cynthia Downes and the Emergency and EMS staff who gave us a bonus 2 ½ months with Jesse.

Jesse will be buried at sea with Coast Guard honors per his wishes. “Fair winds and following seas”.
