John was born in New Haven, CT on June 24, 1937. He graduated from West Haven High School, where he played hockey, and Bridgton Academy in Maine, where he played hockey and football before attending Providence College in Rhode Island, where he also played hockey.
John was proprietor of Jocko Sullivan’s on Chapel Street in New Haven and was a journeyman ironworker for Local 424 (New Haven, CT) and Local 11 (Newark, NJ) for 45 years.
John was predeceased by his parents, John Francis and Anne Johnson Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen Sambrook Sullivan of New Bern, NC. Children from a previous marriage including daughter Nancy Sullivan Hagen of Wall, NJ, son John Michael Sullivan of Denver, CO, and daughter Kerry Sullivan Pierides of Keswick, VA, as well as his grandchildren, Leah Hagen Guise, Alexander Hagen, and Jenna Pierides, along with his great grandchildren, Jack and Ava Guise. John is also survived by his sister, Judith Harris Potter, cousin Nancy Zito DeMartino, and several nieces and nephew, including Richard Harris and Meghann Harris.
Services will be held at a later date. John and his love of life, family and friends will be missed. Let’s all raise a glass in honor of Jocko, son of Ireland and proud American.
