Judy’s adventurous spirit took her to Puerto Rico where she lived with the love of her life, Cain. She was employed as a purchasing manager for many years. She enjoyed cooking Puertorrican food, caring for anyone that needed a helping hand and being the life of the party with her dancing partner Cain. They raised their daughter, Justine, on the island they called home. Judy later returned to the states where she continued to be devoted to her extended family and tirelessly assisted in child-rearing for working family members. While in New Bern she looked forward to her volunteer work at the Ben D. Quinn Elementary School library. Her selfless generosity knew no bounds.
She is survived by her daughter Justine Cabrera and son Douglas Forbes; her step-children Nanette McCall, Cain Cabrera Jr. and Deborah Tavares; brother Dr. Ira Joseph Hanlon, Jr.; sister-in-law Mary Hanlon (nee Coleman); sister Margaret Contaldi; and bother-in-law Peter J. Contaldi. She will be especially missed by her adoring grandchildren Julianna Lopez, Latifah Forbes, Douglas Forbes Jr., Dylan Forbes, Christopher Vitorino, Joseph Vitorino, Jennifer Vitorino, Samantha Cabrera, Cain Cabrera III, Adam Tavares, and Noah Tavares. She is preceded in death by her mother Margaret Cecilia Hanlon (nee Burke), father Ira Joseph Hanlon Sr., husband Cain Cabrera Sr., sisters Maureen Arndt, Barbara VanTassel and nephew Jerry VanTassel.
She will be greatly missed at the center of family functions where, as the family matriarch, she provided nurturing guidance and support. She leaves behind grieving nieces and nephews Patricia Flynn, Kathleen Kozel, Karen Royster, Dr. Laura Hanlon, Dr. Megan Hanlon, Peter A. Contaldi, Kerry Contaldi, and Ryan Contaldi.
