Linda Tetterton Swindell, born on September 14, 1937, passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 88. Linda grew up in Washington, NC surrounded by family and friends. She graduated from Washington High School in 1955, then later married and traveled the country with her husband and children while he served in the United States Coast Guard. She made many lifelong friends and enjoyed opportunities along the way including her work at the VA which she spoke fondly of.
Upon settling down in New Bern in 1975, she served as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for nearly two decades. During her service she worked her way up to become the first female Flotilla Commander. After her exemplary service with the auxiliary, Linda sought a new career in Real Estate where her social personality fostered lasting relationships and gave her a lifetime of stories and memories.
From the very beginning, she was an avid animal lover and reader who was rarely found without a cat and a book nearby. She loved a good meal and to tell a story, especially if she was among those she loved most. Linda was generous with her time and attention, always thoughtful and caring for those in need. She was known for her friendly spirit and formed meaningful connections with ease. The family would like to thank all of her friends and neighbors who were always supportive of her when she needed assistance or an ear to listen. Our family is forever grateful for each of you.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Dallas and Lillian Tetterton as well as her husband Bobby Alton Swindell. She leaves behind her daughter, Sandra and her husband, Michael Harris; son, Buddy Swindell; grandchildren, Helen Harris, Nichole (Michael) Seabrook, and Brian Harris; and great-grandchildren, Tailyn Seabrook, Katherine Philyaw, Bryanna Seabrook, Gabriel Paul, Brendon Harris, Kyndal Harris, Mia Seabrook, and Jett Seabrook.
Services to be determined. In lieu of flowers or gifts please consider a donation to local animal welfare organizations in our area. Charitable donations were very important to Linda, and this would be especially meaningful to her.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Linda Tetterton Swindell.
