Margo Clayton Skaggs

Born on November 27, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, she graduated from the University of Kansas in 1960 and over the next forty years taught school in Shawnee Mission and Manhattan, Kansas, Falls Church, Virginia, and Bowling Green, Ohio.

She married her college sweetheart, then Army Lt. David Curtis Skaggs, Jr., on June 17, 1961. He survives. They have two sons, Jason Tipton Skaggs (Wendy), Cincinnati, and Philip Curtis Skaggs (Kate), East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and five grandchildren scattered from New York City to Colorado.

After her husband began his career as a history professor in Bowling Green State University in 1965, she often served as copyeditor of his publications. She was an energetic member of a variety of community organizations. For instance, she served on the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Board from 1978-93 including service as its chair. She was also a long-time member and president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women which named a gift it her honor to its international endowment in 1998. Margo also served as the Community Chairman of the Ohio AAUW. She was an active member of what was then St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bowling Green.

Upon their retirements in 2001 they divided their time between residences on northern Michigan’s Burt Lake and in New Bern, NC.. In New Bern she was a member of the New Bern Women's Club and the altar guild and choir of Christ Episcopal Church. They were enthusiastic travelers and over the years visited all fifty states, all seven continents, and over a hundred foreign countries.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Christ Church in New Bern, North Carolina beginning at 9:30am. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am. A Funeral Service will be scheduled later at Transfiguration Episcopal Church, Indian River, Michigan.

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
