Mattie Long Peterson

Mattie is survived by her children; Earl H Peterson Jr (Jerry) of Glen Burnie, Md., William David Peterson (Billy) of New Bern, NC, and Martha Bryan Peterson-Saffer of Todd, NC., and her sister, Doris Ashley Moore Smith of New Bern, NC. Mattie enjoyed her nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Peterson, grandson, David Peterson and seven sisters.

Mattie Long was born on May 13, 1915 in Speed, NC, to David Ashley Moore and Martha Bryan Long Moore. She attended New Bern High School where she met her husband, Earl. Later she received her cosmetology degree. She was accomplished at hair dressing and joke telling while running a beauty shop and had many returning customers week after week. She and Earl were generous, social, individuals who loved dancing, dinner parties, playing bridge and golfing.

A funeral is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Cotten Funeral Home located at 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC 28560. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mattie’s life. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm prior to the service.
