Rebecca met her life partner, Marvin Ray Chandler over 20 years ago, together they raised her 3 children and they became Rays children. Her life was devoted to her family and she was a stay at home mother. Just a few short years ago, Rebecca wrote these words:
"From the age of about 10 years old, my dream was to grow up and become a Mommy. I never had any big plans to go to college or choose a career path, my career path was clear, I was born to be a mom. It was ordained by God that every gift and/or talent he had given me was in preparation to raise my children."
After her kids were grown, she felt she needed a purpose. Three years ago she was hired at Truewood and that lit a spark in Rebecca. She loved making her residents smile and hated to miss a day of work. She was known to be a compassionate caretaker and she described her role as her peace, her job at Truewood was her second home. She had a personality that truly appreciated the simple things in life. She loved the beauty in a sunrise/sunset and flowers, she enjoyed being in nature and by the water and enjoying all of God's creation.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her father Haywood Hill. She is survived by her mother, Janice Hill; three children, Chelsey Smith, Jared Smith and Bryce Smith; her life partner, Marvin Ray Chandler; a sister, Annette McCoy (Daniel); her beloved GrandPuppy, Bruno; a niece and nephew and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in the chapel of Cotten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Vanceboro Cemetery. The family invites you to join them in a reception of fellowship and memories, accompanied with food, from 12-2 at the funeral home.
Rebecca will be most remembered as a loving and compassionate person. She had a smile that would light up the room. Her unexpected passing has left a void that cannot be filled, but we will remember the love and happiness her uniqueness brought into our lives.
