

RoseAnn H. Garrity Dietrich passed away on Sunday, July 11th, 2021 at the age of 93 in New Bern, NC. RoseAnn was born December 4th, 1927 in Harrisburg, PA to Charles Carroll and Rhoda B. Hartman. She lived in Harrisburg, PA during her early years with her grandparents, then later moved to Washington, DC with her parents and siblings. She was a telephone operator for Bell Atlantic Telephone Co and then Chief Switchboard Operator for the District of Columbia government working at several hospitals in the area and retired in 1989. She met her husband Winfred Thomas Garrity in DC where they married and raised four children in Maryland. She moved to New Bern, NC in 1984 to be near her daughter. She lived in New Bern and Ernul for many years. RoseAnn loved flowers and working in her flower gardens. She discovered quilting when she moved to New Bern and sewed for many years. In 2010 she was reacquainted with Wilson Jack Dietrich, who had been a good friend of her first husband. They married in Wilmington, NC in 2011 and lived there until his death, at which time she moved back to New Bern to live with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughters Suzanne M. Harry (Roger) of New Bern, Laura E. Jones of Fredericksburg, VA, sons Thomas P. Garrity of Fullerton, Ca and William C. Garrity (Sandy) of Lusby, MD, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Martha Hartman, and faithful dog Lucy.
She was pre-deceased in death by her parents, husbands, Winfred T. Garrity and Wilson J. Dietrich, sister Doris J. Jameson, brothers Samuel D. Hartman, John C. Hartman, and Jay M. Hartman.
The family will receive friends at Cotten Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15th from 4-6 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern, NC.
