

He was an avid outdoorsman; he hiked the Presidential Range in New Hampshire, tended twenty five acres of blueberries at the family summer home. He snow skied, bicycled in several marathons, scuba dived, and Kayaked with the Neuse River Paddle club. He mastered all of these but his real love was sailing his sailboat ALADA with his wife. He also owned a foreign auto shop, worked on cars and ended up owning a few that he used to race in local rallies.
After attending school in Lynn, MA lettering in several sports he attended Lowell Technical Institute. That was where he decided to enlist in the U.S. Air Force where his first assignment was in Greenland where he hiked and explored the ice caps. His next assignment was in Panama City, FL where he met the love of his life Hilda M. Broxton Harvey. They remained married for just shy of 50 years. Now they are reunited in Heaven.
After 28 years of service to the Air Force he retired and began his second career working with the U.S. Marines and the Spanish Air force as a contractor for Lockheed Martin. He retired from them after 19 years.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his step daughter Linda S. Garza and Stepson Paul Minchew as well as a Grandson Devon Bell.
Sheldon was a Prince above men, an angel on earth leaving behind a legacy of unwavering kindness. He was more than generous. He was intelligent and an excellent Father to his two daughters Shelly and Ginger who are left to mourn their loss.
Sheldon attended Croatan Free Will Baptist for 19 years. He served as an Usher, volunteered to help his church family, and would do anything for anyone. He was very kind.
There will be a service to honor his life on Saturday the 23rd of May at Croatan Free Will Baptist Church, 7028 US 70 E, New Bern, NC. Visitation begins at 1:30 followed by the Military Honor Guard attending to honor his life and service.
