This world has lost a kind, sweet and generous spirit who was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She was born in York, SC on March 2nd, 1938, where she graduated from York High School. It is there that she met the love of her life, Charles H. Bailey Sr., who played football for their rival Clover High School. Charles predeceased her on July 30th, 2020, after 60 years of marriage. She is also predeceased by her parents James and Mary Comer and her sisters and their spouses Betty and Chester Willette, Faye and Sid White, Doris and Doug Roberts, Phyllis and John Slimm and her brother Jimmy Comer. Sylvia is also recently preceded in death by her former son-in-law, Timmy Jones, whom she loved dearly.
Over the years she worked as a secretary and a teacher/mentor for adults and children with special needs. Her biggest joy, however, came from being a homemaker and mother for her beloved family. She was an avid BINGO player where she met and made many friends throughout the years.
Sylvia is survived by her son Chuck Bailey and wife, Joy, her daughter Edie Jones and her son Britt Bailey and wife Lisa. She is also survived by her 6 Grandchildren, Lucas Anderson, Samantha Bailey, Matt Jones and wife Lauren, Bailey Jones, Jayme Burleson and husband Travis and Chase Bailey. She was also blessed with 8 Great-Grandchildren Aubrey, Luke, and Tyler Anderson, Morgan Gillikin and Marlei Bailey, Charli and Harrison Jones and Wolfe Burleson. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at 2 pm, Sunday December 14th, 2025, at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. The family will receive friends following the service. She will be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park after a private family service.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
