

After a long & courageous battle following a stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, Claudia Jane Mittendorf Skoog passed away at Eden Hill Communities in New Braunfels on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the age of 81 years, 2 days. Claudia was born December 11, 1936 to Hugo and Lillian Mittendorf at the family farm near what was then called the Austin Hill. When the family moved to Seguin, she attended Mary B. Erskine School. Later her father’s job took the family to San Antonio where Claudia attended Mark Twain Middle School and Edison High School, graduating near the top of her class. She served as class secretary during her senior year and was active as a member of the Edison “Honey Bears” spirit group. Following graduation, she went to work for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in the Accounting Department. She and her family were members of Bethany E & R Church in San Antonio where she met her future husband Carl (Herb) Skoog who, at the time was a Disc Jockey & Program Director at KONO Radio. Herb & Claudia were married at Bethany Church on March 16, 1957. After marrying, Claudia began a long career as a homemaker, housewife, and mother of their two daughters. The Skoog’s moved to New Braunfels in the early 1960’s when Herb became General Manager of KGNB Radio later adding KNBT Radio. For a number of years Claudia taught Sunday School at First Protestant Church. She was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts and band boosters. Claudia excelled as a homemaker with a special interest and talent in cooking, with over 200 cook books in her collection. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her warm, loving smile, kind heart and friendly personality will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Lillian and Hugo Mittendorf and son in law, Gary Marcoux. Survivors include her husband of 61+ years, C. Herb Skoog of New Braunfels, daughters Catherine Marcoux of New Braunfels, Carol “Cara” Miranda & husband Steve Miranda of New Braunfels,TX & Estes Park, CO. Also surviving are granddaughters Elissa Marcoux Richer & husband Jesua Richer of Cibolo, TX, Ann Therese Miranda of Denver, CO and Mary Beth Miranda of San Angelo, TX and great-grandson Azrael Richer of Cibolo, TX. Also surviving are her sister Arlyne Mittendorf Gibbs and husband Bob of Houston, TX. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks for the tender loving care she received from the staff of the Bluebonnet Community at Eden Hill and the Hope Hospice staff who truly went above and beyond in their care of Claudia during this difficult time. Thanks also to cousin Marie Oelkers Helsley Ward and husband J.C. who were always there offering their special love and care.
A visitation, with family present, will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX. A private family committal service will take place at Comal Cemetery.
A celebration of Claudia’s life will be at 12 Noon on December 18, 2017 at First Protestant Church, Coll & Seguin Streets in New Braunfels, TX with a reception to follow in the Church’s Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Claudia’s name be made to First Protestant Church, 172 W. Coll Street, New Braunfels, TX 78130, Hope Hospice, 611 N.
