At age four, living in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression, her father passed away. The family moved to Salina, Kansas, where she would later work as a hostess at Smoky Hill Air Force Base. Here she met Frankie Meyer, a young lieutenant, a bomber pilot in the Strategic Air Command serving during the Cold War. They married at the base chapel on the morning of July 4th, 1956 with his roommate, Chaplin Robert Wallman officiating.
Upon leaving the service, they moved to the New Braunfels area and had three children, Terry, Vicky, and Jerry. Dee was an essential part of the Herman Conrads Charolais cattle ranch that produced a National Champion heifer. As a mother she supported activities including Aquatic Club, Sherwood School Mothers’ Club, Rainbow Girls, various lessons and other sports. She raised budgies and cockatiels as well as feeding wild birds, and kept a beautiful assortment of house plants. After years of working for Frankie’s grandfather, the couple settled nearby with a herd and ranch of their own.
Dee is preceded by her parents and her two brothers, Clyde Jr., and Donald. She is survived by husband of 58 years, Frankie, sons Kenneth Schmidt of North Carolina, Terry of Austin, Jerry of San Marcos, and daughter Vicky Graves of Canyon Lake, three sisters, Ruth Oltmanns, Carol Campbell, and LaDeene Wickersham of Kansas, and her cat, Kittycat.
The family suggests giving to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday December 23rd.
