

She was born on February 9, 1930 in Carbonear, Newfoundland to Thomas and Ann Sweeney. She had a large family and was one of nine children. She attended Presentation Convent school before meeting a handsome U.S. marine named Jerome McCurdy at the Argentia Naval Base. They married in Boston on December 23, 1949 and had three children. They lived in many states, including South Carolina, New Jersey, Illinois, before permanently settling in San Antonio, Texas. “Mickey” as she was affectionately nicknamed was very devout in her Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner at St. Helena’s Church.
Mickey is preceded in death by her parents Thomas & Ann Sweeney, her brothers and sisters, and her loving husband of 70 years, Jerome McCurdy.
She is survived by her children, David (Nancy) McCurdy, Denise Webb, Suzanne Prunty; grandchildren, Jenny (Tony) Alvarado, Holly (Scott) Elliott, Tanner (Lilac) Karnes, Kimberly McCurdy, Sean (Heather) McCurdy, Jerry McCurdy; great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Brayden, Stone, Lily, Haley, Quinn, Evan; and many relatives in Newfoundland.
Mickey had a great sense of humor, quick wit and love of reading books and telling stories. She always loved Newfoundland and listening to Celtic music. She was a wonderful mother and “Meme” and will be forever loved and missed.

A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 7pm at Zoeller Funeral home in New Braunfels, with visitation beginning at 5pm. The Funeral Mass will be May 3, 2023 at 10am at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church (386 N Castell Ave) with interment at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
