Born on January 29, 1938, in Hays County, Francisca lived a life marked by a deep Catholic faith, a call to serve others, and a deep inner strength. She met her husband Francisco Lopez Jr., while working as a fountain attendant at a local drug store in San Marcos. They married on April 1, 1966 and built a loving home grounded in the Catholic faith, family, and community. Together they raised four children: Juanita, Jesus, Francisco III, and Mary Alice.
Francisca was a beloved presence in New Braunfels, especially during its early years as a small, close knit town. Many knew her as a communal mother – a mother whose door was always open and whose heart had room for everyone. She worked faithfully at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and the Bavarian Village as a cook.
She and her husband were longtime active members of both St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Francisca was a devoted member of the Guadalupanas, a women’s group known for serving the community through outreach and support programs. Together, she and her husband became known for leading rosary prayers at funerals and in the homes of grieving families – often stepping in for those who had no one else to lead them in prayer, offering their time and comfort with humility and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Lopez Jr., her parents, Lino Hernandez and Juanita Ramirez, her sister Mary Margaret, and brother Manuel. She was also preceded in death by her Mother in Law Maria Santos Lopez.
She is survived by her children: Juanita Lopez (Joe Hernandez), Jesus Lopez (Chela), Francisco Lopez III (Rosalinda Castaneda), Mary Alice (Jesse Miranda). Grand Children: Thomasine and husband Eddie Gonzales, Alex and wife Destiny Bigham, Brittney and husband Clint Henniger, Tristin, Francisco IV, Blanca, Rosalena, Ophilia, and Joshua Ray. Great Grand Children: Micayla, Mia, Azariah, Ahsias, Adley, Emeri, and Katalena.
Others mourning the loss are: Sister in Law’s Olivia L. Barboza (Ricardo), Nicolasa L. Villanueva, and Edna Silva. Brother in Law Valentin Lopez (Dolores). Also mourning the loss are numerous Nieces and Nephews, along with many friends.
Francisca’s memory lives on through the love she gave, the prayers she prayed, the lessons taught, and the lives she touched. She was the heart of the family, and her presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
