

She was born in Baltimore, MD. On February 21, 1943. The daughter of the late Elwood and Mabel Minor. She was raised in Baltimore and graduated from Carver Vocational Technical High, after attending college she later, enlisted into the US Army on August 27, 1974, as a Clerk Typist. While stationed in Mannheim, Germany she would meet another US Army Soldier the late George W. Parks of Flint, MI. whom she married on July 12, 1976. After fulfilling her military obligation, she received an honorable discharge in August 1977, leaving Germany and settling down with her family in Waynesville, MO. She gave birth to her only child Steven E. Parks of New Braunfels, TX. and started a Government Civilian career as an Administrative Assistant at Ft Leonard Wood, MO.
After retiring from Government Civil Service, Gladys would later take a position as the Treasurer for Greater Baptist Community Church of St. Robert, MO. Gladys enjoyed visiting/ spending time with her family, traveling, arts & crafts, watching NFL Football, hanging out with friends at the American Legion and shooting pool. After stepping down from her position at her church, she moved to New Braunfels, TX. to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. Gladys spent her Golden Years laughing and celebrating life with her Friend and VA Foster Care Nurse Yolonda Gite and her family of San Antonio, TX. Her big bright smile was infectious and comforting to all.
Gladys is survived by her Son, Steven E. Parks of New Braunfels, TX., Daughter-In-Law Amy L. Parks, of New Braunfels, TX. and 5 Grandchildren, Michael, Caleb, Makiya, Elijah, and Amiyah. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a private viewing. Military Funeral Honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Texas on Friday June 28, 2024, at 9:45am, at shelter #5. Honors will be followed by a Celebration of life at Fort Sam Houston Golf Clubhouse, 1050 Harry Wurzbach Rd, Fort Sam Houston, TX 78234 from 10:30 to 12:30.
