Born November 26, 1935, in Houston, Texas
Died January 22, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas at age 90.
Survived by wife of 67 years, Patricia Hill Tolar; children, Carolyn Barclay, Scott Tolar and wife Linda; grandchildren, Theresa and Julius T. Tolar and Matthew Davis; sister, Bettie Lee Armstrong; sister-in-law, Freda Tolar.
Preceded in death by son, Terrill Glenn Tolar; parents, Dewey H. Tolar and Rosie Lee Tolar; sisters, Mildred Hill, and Lela Mae Sypert; brothers, D.H., John, Raymond, and Carl Tolar.
The Tolar family moved to Deer Park, Texas when Glenn was a toddler. He attended Deer Park schools and graduated with the class of 1954. He married Pat in 1958, and the couple made their home in Deer Park.
Glenn left his job in industry in 1963 to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. His first business was a garden center, then he opened Tolar Auto Supply in Deer Park. He later founded The Glenn Tolar Company, a commercial building construction and development firm which continues today.
He took particular pleasure in mentoring his tenants and contractors to be successful, guiding them into community participation and aiding them with business skills and financing. An active leader himself, Glenn served on the Deer Park City Council, as president of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, as president of Deer Park Rotary, and as a board member of several local banks. He was the founder of the Deer Park Fall Festival, which became an annual event and supported community organizations. He also loved applying his professional auctioneering skills to fund-raising events for local non-profits. In 2006, he was inducted into the Deer Park Felton F. Waggoner Hall of Honor for distinguished graduates of extraordinary achievement. In his leisure time, Glenn was passionate about sailing, golf, and later wood turning. His most recent venture in wood turning brought many friends who worked together in his shop learning from each other and sharing stories.
In 2000, Glenn and Pat purchased a home in the mountains of North Carolina where they enjoyed twenty years. Glenn continued his career as a real estate developer and business owner in North Carolina and Texas.
His was a long life well lived—every bit was chased with passion, verve, and excellence. He was an extraordinary man who was committed to his family and gave mentorship and assistance freely to his friends and colleagues. Ethics and the pursuit of success drove him in everything he did. He will be missed by friends and family alike as a unique and powerful force of life who never questioned his ability to accomplish anything he set his mind on doing.
A private family gathering will be planned as were his wishes. The family requests that friends consider honoring his legacy by donating to Hope Hospice at Hopehospice.net.
