

Harvey Gene Scheel passed away peacefully on February 25, 2015 after a brief diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Harvey was born in New Braunfels, Texas on September 23, 1936 to Erwin and Meta Kaderli Scheel. As the third of four children he attended New Braunfels schools and graduated from NBHS in 1955. His efforts in football awarded him a football scholarship to Trinity University. Harvey married his high school sweetheart, Patience Hofer, on September 5, 1959. During their 54 years of marriage they were blessed with two daughters, Valyn and Korri. He began his career working for Southwestern Investment Corporation (SIC) in New Braunfels as branch manager. He later transferred to Guaranty State Bank as senior vice president and worked there until his retirement. In 1969, he and his brother, Danny, started and operated Danny’s Fried chicken for 29 years with stores in New Braunfels, Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Universal City. Also in 1981 he and Danny opened Comal Pawn which is still family owned today. He and Patty opened and operated concession booths at Wurstfest since its inception. Harvey served on the New Braunfels City Council from 1971 – 1974 and was a member of the Jaycees. Harvey and his friend Charles Gillis coached the American Legion Baseball Team for many years. His favorite pastimes included playing golf, fishing, hunting, playing cards and most recently spending time at his ranch, the S-3, in Rocksprings, TX. Harvey and Patty have been involved members of Cross Lutheran Church since they were married. Harvey was a gracious man with a big heart and would extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Patience Hofer Scheel, his daughter, Korri Scheel Stevens and Jimmy, his grandchildren, Jordan Hatfield, Kaden Stevens, Kody Stevens and wife Skylar and Rheagan Stevens. Also, his siblings, Leeroy Scheel and Cathern, Danny Scheel and Dana and brother-in-law Chester Bueche survive him. Also, his nieces, Connie Scheel Palmer, Karen Scheel Arnold, Christi Bueche Haberer, Summer Scheel Ray and nephew Jay Matthew Scheel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Alfred Scheel and Meta Kaderli Scheel, his daughter, Valyn Scheel Hatfield and his sister Rose Marie Bueche.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Cross Lutheran Church, 2171 Common St. Services for Harvey Gene Scheel will be Friday, March 6, 2015 at 2pm at Cross Lutheran Church with interment at Guadalupe Valley Memorial park. Pallbearers include grandsons, Kaden and Kody, son-in-law, Jimmy Stevens, Matt Scheel, Jack Sevic and John Ramsey.
