John (Johnny) William Brown, Jr., 71, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away suddenly on February 17, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas from a multi organ failure that began as a serious liver disease which progressed rapidly.
Johnny was born on December 5, 1954, in Luling, Texas, to John William Brown, Sr. and Mary Beatrice Alexander Brown. He grew up in Seguin, Texas and lived on his family’s farm there. He was the oldest of six children. Johnny graduated from Seguin High School 1973. On August 18, 2018, he married his beloved wife, Mary Lisa Garrett Brown at The Power Plant, a Historical Restaurant located near the river in Seguin, Texas. Johnny worked as an electrician and power plant operator for over 20 years and retired from CPS Energy in 2022. He was a proud member of the New Braunfels Elks Lodge, Blue Santa in 2019 and more recently taken in as a friend by the VFW Post 7110 where he spent time with his newfound friends. To know him was to love him and he never met a stranger. He loved deeply and lived life to the fullest. He was a simple man, a gentle giant and everyone’s friend. His smile could light up any room and he could calm the storm in anyone especially his wife.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents John William Brown, Sr. and Mary Beatrice Alexander Brown; his sister, Angela Laverne Brown; his brother, Jimmy Len Brown; and his grandparents, Wilson Forest Alexander, Lela Mae Daniels Alexander, John Earl Brown, and Bessie Mae Watts Brown.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lisa Garrett Brown; his daughter, Megan Eileen Brown Sterner (Ben); his bonus children, Kayla Thompson (Sterling), Brooke Fitzgerald (Casey), and Haley Ruiz; his siblings, Mary Kathleen Brown Moore (Roy), Wilson “Billy” Earl Brown (Sharon), and Laura Brown Cunningham (Charles); and his seven cherished grandchildren: Hunter, Brody, and Paisley Thompson; Jack Hudson and Kip McCoy Fitzgerald; and Raquel and Tristan Ruiz. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who he loved dearly.
Johnny loved traveling with family and friends, spending time outdoors, enjoying Wednesday mornings with his “Tooty Fruity Rudy Breakfast Club” and above all spending time spoiling and playing with his grandkids which he claimed were his greatest blessings in life. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed dancing, attending music concerts, casinos and making memories with his wife. He especially valued time spent with his friends at VFW Post 7110.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Zoeller Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7110, 600 Peace Avenue, New Braunfels, Texas.
