She was born May 23, 1942, in Warren, Ohio, to the late Truman and Gladys (Boyd) Rhine.
Judy graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1960. She married her life partner, Walter, on February 15, 1961. As a young Air Force couple, they lived first in Denver, CO and then Oscoda, MI where they welcomed their first son, Scott. After the military in 1964, they settled back in the Warren area where Walt would continue his career with Packard Electric and their family would grow again with the birth of their second son, Brian. Judy relished the role of being a stay-at-home Mom and as her kids got older, she enjoyed working at several local photography studios and then she successfully obtained her Real Estate license. She also found great comfort and satisfaction in being a loving and caring Hospice Caregiver. Judy was a longtime member of the Champion Presbyterian Church.
Ready for a new adventure, Walt and Judy moved to Laredo, TX in 1990 where they resided until Walt’s retirement from Packard Electric (Delphi) in 2001. During her time in Laredo, Judy developed many special lifelong friends with whom she loved playing golf, shopping on both sides of the border, and thoroughly enjoying all the culture that South Texas and Mexico had to offer. Walt and Judy opened their home to their family and many friends at every opportunity – Oscar De La Hoya Fight Nights at the Latimer home were legendary in Laredo.
Upon retirement, Walt and Judy moved to New Braunfels, TX where they formed many special bonds with their neighbors. She continued to enjoy golf, swimming and walking while socializing with her beloved neighborhood family. Judy absolutely loved to travel. She and Walt went on numerous cruises, including the Caribbean and Alaska, as well as a very special trip to Israel, where she was baptized in the Jordan River. Judy was a longtime member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Her faith in God and her fellowship with her Cornerstone family was very special to her. She loved to take on numerous roles within her church, especially as a hostess and table captain to help welcome visitors and future members. Above all, Judy cherished her time with family and friends. She was an avid animal lover and always had a spoiled furry friend by her side or in her lap, especially her beloved Westie, Grace.
Judy is survived by her husband, Walter, of nearly 63 years, New Braunfels; son Scott (Robin) Latimer, Centerville, GA; son Brian (Carol) Latimer, Kerrville, TX; grandson Scott Jr. (Mandy) and great-granddaughter Ava Grace Latimer, Rome, GA; and many nieces and nephews. Judy was also blessed with numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved as her own.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Truman “Nick” Rhine and Calvin Rhine; and her dear sister Sara Lou Mounts.
A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, on February 15, 2024 – Walt and Judy’s 63rd Anniversary - with visitation at 11:00am, followed by her service at 12:00pm, officiated by friend and neighbor Dr. Richard Mallard. A reception will commence at the funeral home after her service.
Judy will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, OH on her birthday, May 23, 2024, with details to follow at a later date.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Warren Albrecht, MD and his staff along with the staff of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels for the exceptional care that they gave Judy.
