Kenneth D. Brietzke, 87, of New Braunfels, TX passed away Monday, June 1, 2020 at his home. He was born December 17, 1931 in New Braunfels, TX to Carlon and Edna Brietzke. As a boy, Kenneth began his schooling at Carl Schurz Elementary and spent summers working on his Oma & Opa Galle's farm and learning German. He attended school until age 15 when he began working full time. He then became a battery agent for the National Guard. His 30 year career with HEB began in 1950 as a delivery boy. One fine day during deliveries he spotted a pretty gal mowing her lawn and offered to help. Dorothy was, from that day, the love of his life and became his life partner. He worked his way quickly up the ladder with HEB becoming manager and staying with them a total of 30 years. Kenneth was very active in community life as a committed parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a Wurstfest Opa, and a member of several other organizations. He enjoyed hunting, 9 & 10 pin bowling, and dancing with his sweetheart. He was a devoted husband, father, family member, and friend who loved to make everyone laugh. This is his legacy.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dorothy Mae Brietzke, and his brothers and sisters. Kenneth is survived by his sons, Ron Brietzke and wife Kelly and Mike Brietzke and wife Vicky: sister, Frances Brietzke; 4 grandchildren Bailey, Garrett, Chloe, and Quinton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Public Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Monday, June 8, 2020 at Zoeller Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with entombment to follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kenneth's honor to the Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund.

Ron and Mike-
So sorry for your loss, Kenneth was a good friend and hunting buddy. We have many fond memories of our travels with Kenneth across Texas in search of the big one. My sons, David and John learned a lot from your wonderful dad on these adventures.

Through our numerous years of friendship and mutual undertakings, Kenneth was not only a wonderful friend. He was a wonderful person. I hope and trust that his reunion in heaven with Dorothy will bring immense pleasure to both of them.

I was just a kid looking for work. Mr. Brietzke gave me the opportunity to work at HEB and enjoyed it very much. He was a good and decent man.

I remember my interview to start working at HEB. I was taken to his office , I introduced myself. He was looking at my application then looked up at me. He said " Are you Johnny's brother?" I sad yes. He then told me I started next monday at 10:00am. That was it. I spent a little over 30 years at HEB. Mr. Brietzke was a great boss and a very fine man. I enjoyed when he and Dorothy would come in and shop. He always took time to ask how I was doing and check on my family.
I will miss him.

Mike and Ronnie -
Please accept my and Darrell’s sincere condolences. He was the kindest and most decent person and will be missed. I have many memories of him visiting the old Galle homestead, family gatherings and at the Wurstfest. I have been thinking of him, especially the last two weeks, prior to our Galle reunion as he enjoyed it so much last year. Thankfully he will be reunited with the love of his life, Dorothy.

Ronnie and Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He looked so good at The Galle Reunion last June. I hope he passed peacefully and I am sure you are finding peace thinking of his reunion with Dorothy. I’m so sorry that this happened during this pandemic which limits our chances to get together. But please know that we are thinking of you.
