Our loving mother, Maria R Montalbo, went to be with our Lord on January 6, 2021 at the age of 76. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 9, 1944. She married the love of her life, George Montalbo, on July 8, 1962. She was a great cook, baker and seamstress. She had a passion for baking, which she passed down to her daughters and anyone who wanted to learn. Maria worked at Kelly A.F.B for several years, before leaving to make cakes full-time. She made many wedding cakes over the years and enjoyed doing that. When her daughters were young she made all their dresses, and she used her sewing skills to help decorate the tables of her wedding cakes. Maria and George raised three sons and three daughters. We have wonderful memories of camping, traveling, playing baseball, softball, and of course the Saturday matinee at our favorite theatre. She was a loving woman and treated everyone she met as family. She was known to her grandchildren as “Momo”, and most people who met her would also call her that. She always took time to volunteer at her grandchildren’s church and their schools. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s softball & football games, soccer games, golf tournaments, and cheer competitions. In 2019, she moved to New Braunfels, Texas, but she remained close to her friends from the old neighborhood. She loved her cousins and her three nieces dearly and enjoyed catching up with them often.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; father, Ernest Mejia; mother, Teodora Idar Mejia; brother, Samuel Favella and sister, Dora Favella Macias. She is survived by her six children, Juan Carlos Montalbo, Rita Ellison (David), Rebecca Altman (Robert), Steven Montalbo, Eleanor Montalbo (Mark) and Mario Montalbo (Anna). She had 18 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
