Rick was born August 12, 1961 in San Antonio, Texas to Jimmy and Brenda McCoy. He graduated from Nixon High School in 1979 and worked offshore for a few years after that. In 1991, Rick went to work for Centerpoint Energy. He served 21 years with the company and made so many wonderful friends over the years. His determination and work ethic inspired many, including his children, to go to work every day and do what you love.
Rick was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed vacationing with his family and spent many good times at the coast, going on cruises, playing in the snow and making special memories. He spent a many Friday nights on the stage at Freiheit singing karaoke. He was always the life of the party, bringing joy and laughter into many people’s lives. Many will remember the famous New Year’s Eve bashes that the McCoy’s were famous for which became an annual event. Ricky enjoyed working in the yard and had his own cabana set up out back where most evenings you could find friends and family laughing, barbequing, telling stories, singing and living life to the fullest.
Rick not only gave to his family, but he gave to the community in many ways. He has volunteered for March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, feeding the homeless and doing kind deeds for those in need. He was a true gentlemen and his smile and laughter had the ability to warm many hearts.
Rick also loved to piddle in his garage and always gave Lori a hard time about “keeping all her junk out there to a minimum”. It was also a spot filled with many parties and get togethers. Rick loved to barbeque and could make anything taste good. He was the head cook on his championship BBQ team, the Blue Boy Crew.
The Rickster will be sorely missed by many and had friends galore as was evidenced by the benefit held in his honor earlier this month.
Memorial donations can be made in Rick’s name to the American Cancer Society or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Comal and Guadalupe Counties.
