

Shaun Patrick Sweeney of New Braunfels, Texas passed from this life to the arms of his Savior on August 19, 2013 at the young age of 58 years, 10 months. He was surrounded by his aunt, Sandra Madden from Albuquerque, New Mexico, his cousin, Mike Hickey and many close friends. Shaun was born on October 11, 1954 in Miles City, Montana. As a young child, Shaun lived in Creed, Colorado and later moved to Gallup, New Mexico. He attended the University of New Mexico and graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He began his career in banking as a proof operator at Sunwest Bank in Gallup, New Mexico in 1983 rising in the ranks to manage the Credit Administration Department. He transferred to Albuquerque, New Mexico to pursue his degree and worked as Lock Box Manager and Computer Support at Sunwest Bank. He transferred to Loan Review and worked in Commercial Lending and Credit Administration. Sunwest promoted him to Vice President and transferred him back to Gallup to manage the credit administration department for Gallup Bank. In 2000, Shaun went to work for Gallup Federal Savings Bank in Gallup, New Mexico and established the bank’s Loan Review and Internal Audit Function. In 2002, Shaun moved to New Braunfels, Texas and worked at the First State Bank, managing the Loan Operations Department and later as internal auditor. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and established the Loan Review function and was chairman of the Information Technology Committee for the bank until the bank sold in 2012 to First Victoria National Bank. He helped with the transition to the new owners of the bank until December 2012. He served on the Airport Advisory Board for the city of New Braunfels and was a member of the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce through the bank. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Shaun was a man of few words, but you knew when he spoke. His quick and sometimes sharp wit and sense of humor won him many friends. He was trustworthy, a man of integrity and strong character whose word was his bond and his friendship genuine and kind. Shaun was preceded in death by an infant sister, and his father, Jack Paul Sweeney. He is survived by his mother, Cecelia Sweeney, his aunt, Sandra Madden, cousin, Mike Hickey, uncles, Bill and Francis Madden and numerous other cousins. He is also leaving behind his many former co-workers and friends whose lives now have a void that cannot be replaced. The family is grateful to the care given to him by the staff of Colonial Manor in these last few weeks and wish to thank Rev. Anthony Pesek and Deacon Rusty Brandt of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that in honor of Shaun you remember the American Lung Association as they fight to find a cure and treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension and other lung related diseases and the Multiple Sclerosis Association with your donations. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 1:00 o’clock PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, Texas. Zoeller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
