

She married O.J. Schmidt and lived in Bulverde, TX until September of 1952 when they moved to New Braunfels where she lived until 2021. Her remaining years were spent enjoying life at her assisted living facility in Schertz, TX.
She graduated from Blanco High School as Valedictorian. She was a member of the Spring Branch Hermann Sons organization, where she recently received her 75 year membership pin. She participated in Solms and Spring Branch Bowling Clubs. She loved to travel. She traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and all across the U.S. and Canada.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband O.J. Schmidt, her son Darrel Schmidt, and her sister Ruby Ulbricht. She is survived by her daughter Phyllis Ritter and her husband John of New Braunfels, TX; her daughter Denise Schubert and her husband Robert of Pikesville, MD; and daughter-in-law Lisa Schmidt of Devine, TX.
She is survived by 5 grandchildren: Daniel Schmidt and his wife Chelsea of Bandera, TX; Dustin Schmidt and his wife Jennifer of New Braunfels, TX; Oscar Jarrett Schmidt and fiancée Micaela Klein of San Antonio, TX; Clayton Ritter of New Braunfels, TX; and Vicki Williamson and her husband Geoffrey of Pikesville, MD. She is also survived by 3 step-grandchildren: Dianne Carthel and her husband Clint of Lubbock, TX; Jason Schubert of San Antonio, TX; and Julie Schubert of Moses Lake, WA; 4 great-grandchildren Fiona, Keira, and Edwin Williamson and Kendall Schmidt; 6 step-great-grandchildren Zachary Carthel and his wife Jade; Tyler Carthel and his wife Sierra; and Kayci Carthel and fiancé Alex Reeves; Ariana Constance, Sage Magistro and Sean Lara; 2 nieces Karren Sims and husband Ronny; and Dana Evans and her husband Ivy; 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.
A viewing and funeral will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St., New Braunfels, TX. The viewing will be Friday February 20, 2026 from 5pm-9pm. The funeral will be Saturday February 21, 2026 at 10:00am. Graveside service will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 Hwy 46, New Braunfels, TX with a reception to follow at Zoeller Funeral Home.
Vera was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels. Donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran or a charity of your own choice.
