Victor Campos, age 92, passed away on March 26, 2018, after a long and fulfilled life. Victor was born in New Braunfels, Texas, to Atanacio and Eduvijen Campos on August 10, 1925. He was a life-long resident of New Braunfels, Texas, and spent his final days in the Rio Grande Valley surrounded by loved ones and several of his children.
Victor is survived by his six children, Victor Campos and his wife, Ramona, of Weslaco; Dr. Juan Manuel Campos and his wife, Esther, of McAllen; Atanacio Campos and his wife, Sarah; Daniel Campos and his wife, Lucy; Dr. Carlos Campos and his wife, Isabel; and Nena Ramirez and her husband, Richard. Victor had 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Victor is now in Heaven with his loving wife of 68 years, Victoria.
Victor prioritized his family and his country above all else. At the age of 17, Victor enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country aboard the USS Saratoga during World War II. By the age of 19, Victor had already earned five Battle Stars. After the Navy, Victor went on to proudly serve his community as New Braunfels’s first Mexican American police officer. And even in retirement Victor remained an active citizen, never missing a chance to vote and making frequent contributions to newspaper opinion columns. A fan of yardwork, family barbecues, and a cold beer, Victor will be remembered as a conversationalist who loved to entertain an audience and who always had a story to tell.
