On January 2, 2025, Anastasia (Ann) P. Paskowski Mikulak, wife of the late Alexander J. Mikulak for 68 years, passed peacefully napping in her lounge chair. She was ringed nearby with her loving companion cats--Max, Dali, Alli, Mama and Buddy.
Born on June 17, 1925 in a house at the top of the hill on Miller Street to parents Adolph and Pauline, Ann maintained a close commitment to New Britain and resided there throughout her life. She served for 18 years as the President of the Citizens Property Owners Association of New Britain (CPOA). After the Association disbanded, she advocated that the remaining assets transfer to the New Britain Police Dog Fund.
Ann began her employment during WWII as a medical secretary at the Veterans Administration Central Office. She moved to work with educational institutions for the rest of her career: first as the secretary of the Central Connecticut State University Evening Director; afterward to New Britain Public Schools as the secretary to the Assistant Superintendent. She was later appointed Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools until her retirement in March 1988.
As President of the New Britain Educational Secretaries, she represented the organization at national annual meetings. She was awarded a scholarship from Penn State University for her pursuit for education. Her love for travel was shared with Alexander and their favorite vacations were to Europe and Israel.
A devout Catholic, Ann served as President for the Holy Cross Church Pastoral Council with MSGR John P. Wodarski, and as a representative to the Hartford Pastoral Arch Diocesan Deanery Council during the tenure of Archbishop John F. Whealon.
Ann outlived many loved ones including her husband Alexander, son-in-law, Dean Clark, brothers Casmir, Raymond and Richard Paskowski. She leaves behind daughters Ann Louise Mikulak of West Hartford, and Marcia M. Vinci, son-in law Peter M. Vinci and grandson Peter Alexander Vinci of Charlotte, NC.
The family thanks her exceptional caregivers Christa, Elvira, Margie, Jackie, Alle and Barbara. They were instrumental in extending her life with health and happiness.
Donations in her honor may be sent to Animal Alliance Welfare League (A.A.W.L.) P.O. Box 1775, New Britain, CT 06050.
Ann maintained a strength of will and purpose throughout her almost century tenure. No doubt she is still a force to be reckoned.
