Dear Floyd family,
I wish to offer my Condolences.
Your Dad was a great man and a great coach.
I always felt close to him.
I remember his kids from wrestling.
He was a family man. He showed me way before I got married that a father always love his children. He was a part of me.
I looked your dad up several years ago and could not find him. Did not have a cell phone than. Just wanted to tell him he made me a better person. My daughter lives in Farmington now. Made me think to look him up. That when I realized he had died. Just wanted his family to know That I loved and respected him dearly.

I'm very sad to recently learn of Floyd's passing. He was my favorite professor at the University of Hartford in the early 1980s.  Teaching me Mathematics and Computer Programming, I found him to be an excellent, knowledgeable teacher of the subjects. A great attribute he had was after teaching the class something new, before moving on, he'd scan the room to make sure everyone understood what was just taught and didn't have any questions. If there was a question, he was happy to answer it.

As a person, he was a very kind, family man who I respected very much. He was extremely friendly and personable and will be missed.

Today, as I watch some Formula One, I remember going to Europe with Floyd in 2003, while Jessica was pregnant with Jake. Going to LeMans with Floyd, who was such a lover of Motorsport, and who taught me so much about modern racing, to watch one of the renowned triple-crown races, was just incredible. He was timing the Vipers and Vettes, and was blown away at the Bentley and Audi lap times. We saw a Noble M400 in a camping area, and both loved it. I miss him every day. He would be so proud of the young man Jake has become, and would be thrilled at how Ruby and Violet are maturing, I’m sure. 

Floyd was our coach, mentor, friend and occasional parent-when-necessary over the course of those four great years wrestling for him at the University of Hartford.

Floyd's passion and skills as a teacher helped us to become solid competitors, strong teammates and good friends. Although our group of UHA wrestlers could be an unruly bunch, he combined patience and kindness with hard work and discipline to create a team of excellent athletes.

Floyd always made the extra effort to get to know the interesting personalities of the many characters who passed through his wrestling room. He was thoroughly entertained when engaging with us.  At the same time, he could be very entertaining with his quick wit and great sense of humor. There are so many happy memories. 

Our Coach gave us his all and we did our very best to do the same for him.  He will be missed very much.

Dear Grandpa, 
Grandpa, the most loving and caring person you will ever meet. You have always been an inspiration to me as well as taught me how to live your best life. You were one of the smartest people that I have ever met as well. You will always be remembered through your great pursuits as well as all of your love for others. You have always meant the world to me and by knowing you, it has made me a better person, both inside and out. You have always had an amazing personality, and everyone who knows you would definitely agree. The first time I looked at you, when I was a baby, I realized from that moment on that you would be someone who had a great impact on my life and it turns out, I was right. More and more when I single out the person in my life who has inspired me the most, it has always been you, grandpa. You have always had ears 👂 that truly listen, arms 🤝 that always hold, and love ❤️ that never ends. Thank you for always being there for me and everyone else who cared so much for you. Since we both liked musical theatre 🎭, I would like to just say one more thing that you may be smiling about, up in heaven 😚✨

I have been fortunate to get to know Floyd over the past eight years. When I was introduced as a former wrestler and  we had an instant connection. Floyd loved to talk sports especially his days as a player and coach. He would talk about the Giants, Yankees, Knicks, and even the Mets for my sake every time we met. I always knew he trusted me to take care of his daughter and grandchildren but this level of trust became even more apparent this past year. Floyd asked specifically to speak to me about  some decisions regarding his health. It was an honor to have become a confidante of a man for which I have so much respect. I know I’m not the only one that considered Floyd a father figure and a coach for how to live life. Floyd positively impacted so many lives and will be greatly missed.

I was 21 and dating Jessica when my father died in 1990. The weekend of my dad’s memorial, Thanksgiving weekend, Floyd scooped me up on the way to his Mom’s house for the holiday, and treated me like part of the family.  For the next 22 years, longer than my relationship with my own dad, I had a father in Floyd. 

That was his gift, you see. That ability to be welcoming and loving to anyone he met, no matter how briefly. To treat people with kindness and respect, without feeling that he was diminished by being generous.

I will miss him like I miss my own father: deeply, and every day. I am proud to have known Floyd, and am very lucky that he cared for me.

My grandfather was a good man. He always made time for family, and remained a selfless person to everyone he knew. He will always be remembered. There aren’t words to describe how much I loved him.    

I remember that going up to his house was my favorite part of summer. We would go fishing, play basketball and go to chicly cheese. He would always ask me before we walked into the building, “you ready to get some junk?” I always said yes with a big smile. 

I wish there was a way to turn back the clock and re-live those moments with him forever. 

I couldn’t have asked for a better Dad because there wasn’t one. I am the person I have become today because of him. I can’t remember a time when he wasn’t there for me.

He had an undying love for sports whether playing them when he attended Lycoming College on a football scholarship, coaching, or watching his favorite NY teams (Yankees & Giants). He was an avid runner having completed multiple marathons over the years. He was known in our neighborhood for wearing bright orange mittens on cold days that  my Grandmother had hand knitted for him.

My Dad coached soccer during his early teaching years when no one else wanted this job so the kids could play the sport. All who knew him though were aware that his real coaching passion was devoted to his wrestlers, especially the ones at the University of Hartford, who referred to him as more than a coach, but a father figure as well.

My Dad understated his level of intelligence and was quite humble.  He had advanced degrees in mathematics and computer science. He taught middle school, high school and college level students. Even after retirement he served as a substitute teacher in the public school system and continued teaching math. I wouldn’t have passed my computer science class without his help creating a computer generated poker game. I’m sure many other students felt the same way.

He was instrumental in raising his grandchildren and even named himself the “manny” as he assumed the role of caregiver.  He took his grandson to Central Park every day, searched for lost toys tossed from strollers, negotiated a 3rd floor walk-up with baby gear in tow and commuted back and forth from CT to NY without complaints. On the day of his death his briefcase, which he always carried, was filled with cards, pictures, artwork and letters from his grandchildren, whom he loved so dearly.

I know he is now resting peacefully in heaven. He will forever be missed. 

I had the pleasure of working with Floyd while he coached wrestling at the University of Hartford. 

He was a competent technician, but more important, a genuinely nice guy.  You wanted to win for him. 

He took his job seriously, but never took himself seriously, so although practice was hard work, it was fun. 

I have known Floyd since I was 10 years old I'm now 45. Floyd and his family were always very nice to me. You see I had a nickname around the neighborhood actually a couple, one was Thing on the neck and the other was Beaver
 Floyd his kids never called me name's . His daughter Jessica was always so nice to me.
 I remember always going to watch Chris and Floyd who I called mr. Fisher play basketball on the street in front of his house I must have been a big pain in the butt I would come knock on the back door just about every day before dinner just to talk with Dan,Chris or Floyd 99% of the times one of them would always take the time to talk to me. I'll never forget the time mr. Fisher and his son Chris fixed up my banana seat bike and made it into a BMX bike so my bike looked just as good as the other kids in the neighborhood they worked on my bike all day long , nobody was going to make fun of my bike anymore. I'll never forget the fourth of July's with Floyd and my Dad watching us kids light fireworks off and then watch us run as the police came up the street Floyd in my dad would get such a good kick out of it. Floyd you will always be remembered.
