Frank M. D'Addabbo Sr.

Frank M. D’Addabbo Sr., P.E. 91 of West Hartford died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday April 5, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife Pauline (Bordonaro) D’Addabbo. Frank was born on February 21, 1926 in New Britain, to Pasquale D’Addabbo and Donatella (Christafaro) D’Addabbo. He grew up in New Britain and graduated from New Britain High School. A United States Army Veteran, Frank served during World War II. He attended UConn and obtained his professional civil engineering license and began his career at the Department of Transportation as a draftsman. Frank advanced to the position of Deputy Commissioner, Bureau of Highways. He was an employee of the Department of Transportation for 48 years. He was married to Pauline (Penny) for over 50 years. Frank’s professional accomplishments were many and include serving as an officer of the Institute of Traffic Engineers. Frank was extensively involved in civic organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the American Red Cross and the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Frank took special joy during the Lenten season in the creation, development and participation of the St. Ann Church Passion Play. He also loved the game of golf, enjoying the company of friends and family and the spirit of competition. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves his three children, Dona Cassella and her husband Michael of New Britain, his son the Honorable Frank D’Addabbo, Jr. and his wife Diane of Cromwell and his daughter Lisa Szewczul and her husband David of Farmington; five grandchildren, Michael and Eliza Cassella, Kate and Sarah D’Addabbo, and David Leigh Szewczul, and a niece, Marie Kumm. He was predeceased by his sister Ann D’Addabbo Kumm. Frank also leaves his special companion, Mary Lou Dolce of New Britain.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Connecticut chapter of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Norwalk, Ct.

Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated on Monday, April 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 145 South Main Street, Unionville. The family requests everyone meet directly at church. Please note: due to road construction on Route 4 in Farmington, please allow an extra 30 minutes travel time, or choose an alternate route. Entombment in St. Mary’s Garden Mausoleum, New Britain will follow. Calling hours are from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at The New Britain Memorial Donald D.
