George A. DeGrandis, 47, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2026. Surrounded by family, George celebrated last call at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He was the son of the late George DeGrandis and his mother, Barbara DeGrandis (Pellegrini), and was born on September 10, 1978, in New Britain, Connecticut. Often found on jobsites with his dad as a youngster, George learned the trades from his father and would spend his life working with his hands and perfecting his craft.
In addition to trade work, George and his father built several soap box derby cars during his younger years. He won the local championship in Bristol, Connecticut, and rode his car, Huskymania, all the way to the International Championship in Akron, Ohio, in 1992.
George attended E.C. Goodwin RVTS in New Britain, focusing on automotive technologies. Despite his love of cars and success in the field—including finishing in the top five of an international automotive diagnostic competition in Las Vegas with his buddy Mitch—he ultimately settled into the construction trades. Specializing in copper and slate work, George was often part artist and part craftsman. His attention to detail and respect for the craft earned him much praise throughout his career. Social and funny, George was a member of several local social clubs, including the former Amber Club, Svea Club, Spartans A.C., and others over the years. Some of his favorite times were spent sharing a cold one with friends and laughing at the absurdities of life. Of all the joys and love he found in life, none compared to that of his daughter, Cassie. He loved her immensely, and his life was fuller and more complete from the moment she entered his world. George will be remembered for his big heart, hearty laugh, and generous nature. The world was most certainly a better—and more entertaining—place with him in it. He leaves behind his mother, Barbara; two brothers, Mark and Barry; sisters Laurie and Sue-Ellen; a niece, Alyssa; nephews Chad, Steven and Aiden; and the love and joy of his life, his daughter, Cassie. He was predeceased by his father, George. Friends, family, and supermodels are invited to call on Tuesday, February 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Connecticut. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather immediately afterward for food and drinks in celebration of George’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations for the benefit of George’s daughter, Cassie, may be coordinated through his brother, Mark DeGrandis.
