

James E Slater, Sr. 68, the beloved husband of Linda (Pearsall) Slater, of Barkhamsted, CT, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning November 23rd. Jim was born in Grand Gorge, New York on August 26, 1942. He is predeceased by his parents, Marion and Stanley Slater and sister Barbara Murphy.
Jim grew up in New York where he met his wife Linda, married and began their family life, later moving to New Britain CT where they lived for over twenty years before settling down in Barkhamsted, CT. Jim spent most of his career life as a carpenter with S&S Builders and then retiring from his last position with Slater’s Auto as a mechanic. Jim was a hard working and dedicated man. He loved fishing, hunting and most of all spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife and friend, Linda Slater, their five children and spouses, Pamela and Natalie Slater of Berlin CT, Jim and Sandy Slater of New Britain, Sally Doney of Newington, and Ralph and Susan Slater of Berlin, his loving grandchildren, Lauren Slater , Heather Doney , Brandon Slater, Joey Brescia and Haley Slater. He is also survived by six brothers; Stanley Slater, Paul Slater, Robert Slater, Everett Slater, Clifford Slater, Elsworth Slater, and two sisters, Arlene Wilkens and Gladys Buel, along with many loving sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Jim will be missed and will remain close in all our hearts forever. Please join his family as we celebrate his life together on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 11AM -1PM followed by a ceremony 1PM at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain. Burial is at the convenience of the family. His family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and doctor's at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center in Avon CT.
