Santina DiTommaso passed away at the age of 95 early morning on Saturday, Nov. 24 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Giovanni DiTommaso. Born in Matrice, Provincia di Campobasso, Italy on March 31, 1923. Both she and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1956 living first in Vineland, NJ before settling in New Britain CT in 1959. She became a United States citizen in 1962.
She was employed by the American Bazaar company where she was worked for many years before retiring. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Church and a member of the Sons of Italy.
Throughout her life, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, who enjoyed gardening and cooking making sure her family was always well fed. Santina loved to sing and could be heard singing Italian songs even while riding on the back of her daughter’s boyfriend’s GoldWing.
She is survived by her only child, Mariella Fiorino, and her grandchildren, Jeffrey John Fiorino and Dina Marie Fiorino. Nothing would make her happier than cooking pasta for them and seeing their smiles. She also leaves her sister, Olga Scarano, 103, who lives in Campobasso, Italy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28th, at 8:30-9:30AM at the New Britain Memorial Funeral Home on 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain CT followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Ann’s Church on 47 Clark Street in New Britain at 10:00AM. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1309 Stanley St., New Britain, Conn. The family would like to thank the staff at Middlebrook Health Care in Middletown, CT. for their care and compassion. She was always so grateful for their kindness in doing so and for all the kindness everyone showed her in her later years. She was a person who appreciated all acts of kindness shown to her.
